Diamond Hill is the perfect hiking spot for all with a selection of tracks with different distances and difficulties to suit all needs. The hill has 4 tracks green, yellow, blue and red with the latter being the only one that hits the summit.
The green track is the most suitable for families at only 0.5km the tracks are fully graveled and the end has a children’s play area.
Yellow is longer at 1.5km and again with great paths. still very easy conditions and a suitable track for all.
Those who want some views but don’t feel able to do the full summit loop the blue is for you. At 3km general fitness is required and it’s not really suitable for very young children but its a good rewarding loop walk.
Those who want the full monty and those spectacular Connemara views hit the red track. At 6.8 km this track takes you on a full loop over the summit of Diamond Hill and back down the other side. Giving you views of Kylemore Abbey, 12 Bens and out as far as the eye can see over the atlantic ocean.
With Diamond Hills location and wildness it’s a great idea to be prepared, after all this is located close to Ireland’s Atlantic coast and is one of the wildest areas in Ireland. Check weather reports prior ideally a clear day is hoped for as the isolation leaves you open to high winds etc. Make sure you bring solid hiking shoes and warm clothes preferably waterproof. Always pack some food and a drink whenever your hiking anywhere in the wild. And most importantly enjoy the hike.
